Preparing Artwork for a Custom Apparel Order
A clear artwork checklist for custom apparel: file quality, colours, placement, spelling and proof approval before production.
Send the clearest source file you have
For a custom T-shirt, sweatshirt, cap or tote enquiry, provide the original artwork when possible instead of a small screenshot. Ask the seller which file types they can accept and whether the art needs a transparent background.
Include the exact wording as editable text in your message as well as in the artwork. This gives the team a way to check spelling before preparing a proof.
Describe placement and colour
Specify the garment, print location, approximate size and colours. If you have a reference, identify what you want to match rather than assuming every detail will transfer exactly.
The usable print area and production method depend on the garment and equipment. Ask the seller to confirm what is feasible for your design.
Approve the proof before production
Review the proof at its intended scale. Check the spelling, orientation, alignment, margins and contrast against the garment colour, then request corrections before approving.
